MAR 3, 10, 17, 24, 31: “Dancing with the Stars” Workout at Dothan Dance Club from 7-8pm. Get a toned dancer’s body – no partner needed. On ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars,” countless pounds are shed and bodies transform before our very eyes. Now it’s your turn to dance your way to fitness. With this fat-blasting program you will learn four choreographed dance routines featuring some of the best moves from the show. Instructor will be Ron DeVane and the cost is $10 per class. MAR 4: SARCOA’s Learn on Lunch Seminar at the Southern Alabama Council on Aging from 12-1pm. The Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging will host its monthly Learn on Lunch seminar. Westside Terrace and Rehab First will present information about rehab and other services they offer. MAR 4: Ms. Senior Wiregrass Pageant at Dothan Opera House at 6:30pm. The Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging will host the 2010 Ms. Senior Wiregrass Pageant on March 4. The Ms. Senior Wiregrass Pageant celebrates graceful aging through intelligence, wisdom, talent and poise. The pageant is co-sponsored by the City of Dothan. MAR. 20: Spring Farm Day at Landmark Park from 10am-4pm. Celebrate the agricultural heritage of the Wiregrass with traditional spring farm activities. There will be an Alabama State Horse and Mule Plowing contest and an Old Time Fiddlers’ convention held in conjunction with Spring Farm Day. Concessions will be available. MAR. 24: Alzheimer’s: the Long Goodbye Program at Ridgecrest Baptist Church from 8:30am-2:30pm. Presented by Dr. Bob Carnes, Health Chatsare open to the public and there is no charge to attend the sessions. Health Chats are held in the EMS classroom, Suite 217, located on the second floor. MAR. 25: 11th Annual Human Resource Forum at Troy University Dothan Campus from 7:30am-3pm. This year’s theme is “Mastering the HR Marathon.” The forum will be of special interest to any employee involved in the human resource department, from assistants to managers to business owners.  The keynote speaker will be Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz. The cost to attend is $75 per person; $50 for WHRMA members; $25 for college students. The Piney Woods Arts Festival is one of the oldest juried arts and crafts shows in the Wiregrass and features original arts, crafts, a children’s fun center, special displays, food and entertainment. APR. 10: Tri State BBQ Festival at The Houston County Farm Center from 9am - 9pm. Now in its fifth year, the Tri-State BBQ Festival draws teams from around the Southeast. The event is a sanctioned stop on the Florida BarBQue Association competition tour, and is also a qualifier for the Triple Crown Competition and the Jack Daniels’ Invitational. Attendees may watch the competition, as well as sample pulled pork from many teams. Admission is $5 per person, and also includes live entertainment, a play area for children and a huge selection of arts and crafts vendors from around the tri-state area. The final concert of the night will be at 6 pm on the main stage, featuring Nashville chart topper Braden Gray. Admission to the concert is included with the general admission ticket.

May 1: Mural City Arts Fest in downtown Dothan. In addition to the art activities, there will be performances of various styles of music and dance, the New South Cruisers are bringing their Antique and Collector Car Show, there will be a craft and merchandise sales area on Foster, and even a 5K run. The City of Dothan’s newest mural will be unveiled and dedicated, and the State of Alabama is awarding the City a plaque for their participation in the “Year of Downtowns and Hometowns.” Admission to The Mural City Art Fest is free, and is presented by The Downtown group. May 1-2: The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens Spring Gardens Tour. The beauty of the Wiregrass will be superbly showcased in the seven gardens expected to be open for touring. The tour takes place on Saturday from 10am-5pm and on Sunday 1pm-5pm. Tickets are $15 per person. Ticket holders may tour the gardens both days.  There is no charge for children 12 and under.  The Patron’s Party takes place on Thursday, April 29, and a gardening seminar is planned for Friday, April 30.
