Downtown Enterprise is a bustling area that has been reinvigorated by the many locally-owned shops and restaurants that make their home in the downtown area. Each year during the month of October the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce invites Wiregrass-area residents to visit downtown Enterprise for its Boll Weevil Fall Festival. The Boll Weevil Fall Festival is always a family-friendly event and is often considered the unofficial early kick-off to the holiday shopping season for local businesses.
This year’s event will be held Saturday, October 28, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will include a variety of activities and attractions along with highlighting the businesses that make downtown Enterprise the booming small business community that it has become.
“This event is a great opportunity to spotlight Enterprise and the variety of thriving small businesses we have throughout the city and especially downtown,” said Enterprise Chamber of Commerce President Erin Grantham.
According to Erin, downtown Enterprise is currently at approximately 95% occupancy. Because of its high occupancy, the downtown area continues to thrive as more and more people learn about the businesses there. The Boll Weevil Fall Festival is a special opportunity for Enterprise residents and visitors to discover for themselves all that these downtown businesses have to offer.
During the Boll Weevil Fall Festival, the retail shops along Main and College Streets remain open and typically offer special sales and incentives to patrons. In addition to downtown businesses being open, many other local businesses and organizations set up booths on the street to get the word about their goods and services to a larger audience than they normally have access to.
An assortment of vendors will set up booths including arts and crafts, home goods, lawn and garden, clothing and accessories, local produce and food trucks. There is something for everyone at the festival, and each year the festival attracts large crowds to the downtown area.
“Any time we are able to provide an opportunity to highlight our many great businesses and organizations, especially to a multitude of people, it is a direct reflection of the Chamber working to fulfill its mission to prosper our local businesses and, in turn, the community’s wellbeing as a whole,” said Erin.
Along with the many shopping opportunities at the Boll Weevil Fall Festival, visitors can enjoy in a variety of other activities and events. Kids ages 0 – 12 can participate in a costume contest at 9:00 a.m. for prizes and can “trick or treat” at select retail shops. There will also be a pet costume contest sometime during the day. Visitors can also visit the Community Performer Stage that will highlight local talent and local live bands.
“And, of course, there’s the Boll Weevil Monument,” said Erin.
Erin said that hosting events like this is a great way for the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce to work with local businesses and maximize their visibility to the community at large and connect local businesses owners and employees with other local business owners and employees.
“The Chamber works tirelessly to find new ways to share information about our members,” said Erin. “Events like the Boll Weevil Festival area great way to connect the people who offer the goods and services to each other and to the general public. Building relationships and creating a network of resources is the cornerstone of managing a successful business. People do business with people, and these events give patrons an opportunity to meet the incredible men and women who work so hard to provide for the needs and wants of our citizens.”
