Groundbreaking at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (photos and video)
Governor Robert Bentley joined dozens of local dignitaries and a few hundred guests today at the site of the future Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) to officially break ground on the long-awaited project. The college is expected to open its doors to its first class of 150 medical students in the summer of 2013. ACOM will be the first osteopathic college in Alabama and the first in the nation to share a campus with a regional medical center (Southeast Alabama Medical Center).
The college is currently in the process of receiving accreditation. SAMC estimates that the local economic impact will reach $295.7 million by the year 2030 with nearly 2,000 jobs created in the state by that time.
