![]() The new year is the time most of us think about making changes. When our staff decided to take on the task of doing an article on a couple of makeovers with the help of some local businesses, it got me thinking about the possibilities of my own makeover. Maybe it goes back to the old “lipstick on a pig” thing, but I’m not quite sure if I’m ready for any major changes personally. So instead I made an appointment with Cuts & Such for my quarterly haircut. Shop owner, Liza Register has done a great job of creating a relaxed atmosphere along with some great stylists, Ashley Forsythe and Belinda Lunseth. They always do a great job of bringing my overgrown hair back under control. Look for more on Cuts & Such in an upcoming issue. There I stood—17 years old—next to my father and my best friend, Corey. The London Underground was dark and dreary and I could smell the cold weather in my nose. As we waited on the platform for our train to arrive, I remember my father’s dark receding hairline and thick mustache and Corey’s straight, pale blonde hair resting nervously on her shoulders. With a glance, the map on the wall would scream the train routes, using bright colors, not words, and the Exit sign spoke in British exclaiming Way Out. This is the beginning of my mythology. My memory revisited, thanks to artist Dale Kennington and the debut of her current exhibition of “Subjective Mythologies” at the Wiregrass Museum of Art. read more |
